Los Angeles Maritime Institute

The Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth through at-sea experiences aboard tall ships. Their mission is to provide educational sailing adventures that develop 21st-century leadership skills, inspire maritime and STEM careers, and foster personal growth. LAMI offers programs like TopSail Youth Program, which takes education out of the classroom and onto the water, focusing on under-served youth aged 12-18. They utilize hands-on learning to teach skills such as team-building, problem-solving, and leadership, with a motto of "We use the sea to educate youth for life." LAMI also provides opportunities for workforce training, historic preservation, and community engagement, operating a fleet of tall ships from San Pedro and Long Beach.
