Curious about what happens in the natural world after the sun goes down? Join Red-tail Land Conservancy for our Night Crawlers Hike, an evening adventure that reveals the hidden magic of nature after dusk.
This free evening outing is open to all age groups. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Activities are weather dependent.
Participants will have the chance to:
Learn the basics of mothing and try their hand at attracting moths to a sheet!
Learn the basic principles of night vision.
Search and identify nocturnal wildlife, ranging from owls to frogs.
Learn about the relationship between wildlife and the night, and how it aids or threatens their survival.
Connect and learn about the night sky through stargazing.
Gain awareness on how light pollution affects nature and wildlife.
Be sure to wear clothes and shoes fitting for the weather, rain or shine. We recommend bringing a water bottle, bug spray, and a flashlight (preferably red light). Parking at this nature preserve is available but limited. Please plan to carpool if you’re coming as part of a group.
Whether you’re a curious explorer or an avid naturalist, this nighttime experience offers a rare opportunity to connect with the wild world in a whole new way. Come ready to see, hear, and feel the night like never before!
