It took 20 years to plan and 3 years to build. Visit CA's largest recycled water reservoir - Trampas Canyon Reservoir.
The reservoir helps the Santa Margarita Water District recycle nearly 100% of its wastewater. Before building this reservoir, roughly 20% of the District’s recycled water went to the ocean because there was no storage. The reservoir may also, one day, provide the region with the opportunity to reuse recycled water for drinking.
FACTS:
- 1.6 billion-gallon recycled water reservoir (can fill the Rose Bowl nearly 20 times!)
- Construction began in January 2018 and was completed in November 2020
- Approximately $93 million investment in local, reliable, and sustainable water
