Details:
**Pottery Program Overview**
The Pottery Program offers a comprehensive approach to ceramics, featuring classes in both handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques.
**Beginning Handbuilding** focuses on the fundamental art of creating ceramic forms without a potter’s wheel, utilizing pinch, coil, and slab built techniques. Students will also learn essential safety guidelines and studio procedures.
**Intermediate Level 2 - Wheel (Soda Firing)** introduces the atmospheric firing process in a cross-draft kiln, blending control and unpredictability. Participants will explore how factors like flame movement and soda introduction influence glaze response and surface development. Hands-on experience includes kiln loading, firing preparation, and unloading.
Both classes include a $98 pass-through supply fee covering a bag of clay (stoneware, raku, or Lizella earthenware, with porcelain available for an additional $5), glazes, and 2,000 cubic inches of firing space. Students must provide their own tools, with additional clay and tools available for purchase at the studio. All work must be created onsite at Callanwolde's Pottery Program studios, as outside work is not permitted.
