The Niles Canyon Railway, operated by the Pacific Locomotive Association, Inc., is a living history museum dedicated to preserving and interpreting the heritage railroads of the West Coast. Its mission is to develop and operate a working railroad museum that educates the public about the significance of American western railroads. The railway operates historic equipment, preserves the atmosphere of pre-1960s small-town America, and offers educational programs. It provides public excursions with steam and diesel locomotives through Niles Canyon, connecting historic communities and offering unique experiences like the annual "Train of Lights" holiday event.
