Celebrate freedom, history, and community at the Juneteenth Celebration hosted by the Hercules Library and the City of Hercules. Join us for a day of storytelling, music, culture, and creativity honoring the legacy of Juneteenth.
The celebration includes:
10:00 a.m - A special Storytime at the Library featuring Mayor Chris Kelley and Council Member Tiffany Grimsley.
11:15 a.m. - Community Flag Raising & Ceremony at City Hall with Khristel Johnson on Telling the History of Juneteenth through Quilted Tapestries, line dancing with the Hercules Senior Center, and a performance of the Black National Anthem by Hercules resident Semoine Sykes.
1:00 p.m. - An interactive workshop at the library on quilting in the African American community with with Khristel Johnson, complete with exploring several of her larger-than-life quilts.
Don’t miss The Walking Ghosts of Black History Juneteenth Exhibit and the “What Freedom Means” community art display, available all month long at Hercules Library.
