Mountwood Park, situated 12 miles east of Parkersburg, West Virginia on US Route 50, is a stunning county park featuring over 50 miles of hiking and biking trails, serene campgrounds, a picturesque 50-acre lake, and lush picnic spots. Since its opening in the early 1980s, it has provided outdoor enjoyment to local communities for over thirty years. The park stands on historically rich land, once the booming oil town of Volcano, where the U.S.'s third oil field was discovered in the late 1800s. Volcano's legacy is celebrated during the annual Volcano Days festival.
