Details:
Before fast fashion made clothing disposable, mending was survival — and an art form. This 2-week series explores hand stitching and mending techniques drawn from the traditions of immigrant and working communities: Japanese boro, Indian kantha running stitch, Appalachian quilting from scraps, and cultural embroidery from across the world.
We'll talk about fabric quality, how to choose the right stitch for the right repair, and the difference between invisible mending and visible mending as an aesthetic choice. We'll also talk honestly about what the fast fashion industry costs — in labor, in resources, in the skills we've lost.
Bring something that needs mending. All other materials provided. Register once for both weeks. You must be able to attend both.
