“Watercolor Stories: Art of Charles E. Burchfield” presents the captivating artistic relationship between celebrated American painter Charles E. Burchfield and Munson benefactor Edward Wales Root. Featuring 24 vibrant and expressive watercolors from Munson’s collection, “Watercolor Stories” brings together rarely seen related artworks and archival materials from the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
Also on view are dozens of letters exchanged between Burchfield and Root, offering intimate reflections on art and nature and revealing the deep creative dialogue that shaped their enduring friendship.
