Details:
No prior ceramics experience is required. In this two-session ceramic workshop, participants will design and hand build a bonsai-specific planter using slab construction techniques. The first session focuses on working with clay—learning how to form shallow planters, attach walls, and incorporate essential drainage and wire tie-down holes needed for bonsai planting.
After the first session, pieces will be bisque fired in the kiln. During the second session, participants will glaze their planters, choosing from several different glaze options to personalize their finished piece. NOTE: The second (glazing) session will be much shorter than the first session and will typically take around one hour. Arrangements can also be made for us to complete glazing or to come in at another time if participants are unable to attend the second session as scheduled.
Please note that this class is specifically for creating shallow bonsai planters. As with all handmade ceramics, natural variations such as slight warping, cracking, or unexpected glaze results may occur—part of the organic charm of working with clay. Every effort will be made to produce a functional and beautifully imperfect finished piece.
