Details:
Join the Grit City Litter Cleanup, specifically the Dickman Mill Work Party, taking place on the third Saturday of each month from 9 am to 12 pm at Dickman Mill, McKinley Park, or Oak Tree Park. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are invited to help maintain these parks by removing invasive weeds and cleaning the areas. No prior experience is necessary, as tools and training will be provided; however, participants must bring their own gloves.
For those volunteering at McKinley Park, please register online via MyImpact and meet near the park entrance on Upper Park St to assist Habitat Steward Danny. Afterward, take the opportunity to explore the scenic trails, waterfall, and reflection pond. At Oak Tree Park, also register online and gather at the entrance on Pine Street S to work with Park Steward Albert in beautifying and restoring the park.
Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather, as the event will proceed rain or shine, and restrooms are not available at either location. Participants should bring a water bottle, snack, and gardening gloves, although extra pairs will be provided. Anyone under 18 must present a signed Youth Participant Waiver if attending without a parent or guardian. For more information, contact Community and Special Projects Coordinator Kevin Johnson at kevin.johnson@tacomaparks.com. Street parking is available at both parks.
