Details:
Join Harbor WildWatch for engaging and educational low tide tours at Sunnyside Beach Park and Theas Park along the picturesque shorelines of the Salish Sea. These hands-on beach walk programs invite participants of all ages and skill levels to explore the vibrant intertidal zone, guided by friendly biologists and knowledgeable volunteer naturalists. You'll discover a diverse array of marine life, including sea stars, crabs, and sea anemones, while learning about their unique adaptations, behaviors, and the challenges facing our ocean ecosystems.
Both programs emphasize good beach etiquette and allow for tactile experiences with marine creatures, making them perfect for families, school groups, or anyone with a keen interest in nature. Tours last approximately 60-90 minutes and run in all weather; participants are welcome to leave at any time. We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes like rain boots, water shoes, or old sneakers that can handle getting wet and muddy. Please also dress in layers, and bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and a snack if needed. While participation in Harbor WildWatch programs is free, a suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family is appreciated.
For Sunnyside Beach Park, meet near the sand courts at the scheduled start time; for Theas Park, gather near the giant globe to the left of the water. Remember, parking is available nearby, and restrooms are accessible at both locations. Prepare for a memorable experience that deepens your appreciation for the beauty and complexity of local marine environments.
