Details:
Join Harbor WildWatch for an exciting and educational public beach walk at two stunning locations along the Salish Sea: Manchester State Park and Penrose Point State Park. During these low tide tours, knowledgeable biologists and friendly naturalists will guide you in a hands-on exploration of the intertidal zone, revealing the rich diversity of marine life, including sea stars, crabs, and sea anemones. Participants will learn about proper beach etiquette, the unique adaptations of marine creatures, the challenges facing ocean ecosystems, and how to help protect them.
These tours are suitable for all ages and skill levels, making them perfect for families, school groups, or anyone interested in the natural world. Dress appropriately for weather conditions and wear closed-toe shoes—rain boots or old sneakers are recommended as the terrain includes a mix of sandy and rocky areas, which can be slippery. Each walk lasts approximately 60-90 minutes, with participants welcome to leave early if needed. Although the programs are free, a suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family is appreciated.
A Discover Pass is required for both parks: $50 per year or $10 per day, available online or at park entry points. Meet Harbor WildWatch staff and volunteers wearing blue at designated meeting spots—picnic tables at Manchester or the lawn near the restroom at Penrose. Both parks offer restroom facilities and drinking water for convenience.
