Details:
Join Harbor WildWatch for the Jack Hyde Park Low Tide Tour, an engaging and educational beach walk program along the beautiful shorelines of the Salish Sea. Led by knowledgeable biologists and volunteer naturalists, this hands-on exploration of the intertidal zone welcomes participants of all ages and skill levels, making it ideal for families, school groups, or anyone curious about marine life.
During the tour, you will learn beach etiquette and have the opportunity to touch and examine fascinating creatures like sea stars, crabs, and sea anemones, while gaining insight into their adaptations and behaviors, along with the challenges our ocean ecosystems face. Each beach walk lasts approximately 60-90 minutes, though attendees can leave at any time.
Please dress appropriately for the weather, wearing closed-toe shoes suitable for wet and muddy conditions, and bring water, sunscreen, layers, and snacks as needed. The program is free, but suggested donations of $2 per person or $5 per family are appreciated.
Parking is available nearby, and participants will meet at the sundial statue at the scheduled start time. Look out for Harbor WildWatch staff in blue. The beach terrain includes a sandy uneven trail and features sand, gravel, cobble, boulders, and pilings. Restroom facilities and drinking water are accessible.
Address: 1741 N Schuster Pkwy, Tacoma, WA 98402. Come discover the beauty and complexity of our local marine environment!
