Details:
Join Harbor WildWatch for the Fox Island Fishing Pier Low Tide Tour, an engaging and educational public beach walk along the beautiful Salish Sea shoreline. This hands-on exploration of the intertidal zone is led by knowledgeable biologists and volunteer naturalists who will help you discover the diverse marine life inhabiting our local waters. Participants will learn about proper beach etiquette and have the opportunity to touch and examine fascinating creatures such as sea stars, crabs, and sea anemones, while understanding their unique adaptations and the environmental challenges they face.
This tour is suitable for all ages and skill levels, making it ideal for families, school groups, or anyone curious about the natural world. Regardless of your experience level, you're sure to leave with a deeper appreciation for our local marine environment. The program runs in all weather, so please dress appropriately, preferably in closed-toe shoes like rain boots or old sneakers. Don’t forget to bring water, sunscreen, layers, and snacks as needed. Each walk lasts about 60-90 minutes, and participants may leave early if they choose. While the program is free, a suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family is appreciated.
Meeting at Fox Island Fishing Pier requires parking in designated spots, and participants should gather in the lawn area near the parking lot, identifiable by Harbor WildWatch staff in blue. The path to the beach is uneven and leads to a sandy, gravelly area with occasional boulders. Restrooms and drinking water are available. This program is offered through a collaboration between Harbor WildWatch and PenMet Parks. For further details, visit the PenMet Parks website.
