Dabke Dance Workshop

Details:

Join us for an engaging Dabkedance workshop. Dabke, a vibrant folk dance, has its origins in the Levant, which includes Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and Palestine. Historians believe that Dabke dates back thousands of years, originating during the time of the Phoenicians. The term Dabke means stamping of the feet, aptly reflecting the dances energetic rhythm and synchronized footwork. Typically, dancers form a line or circle, holding hands or linking shoulders, moving in unison to the rhythm of traditional music that features instruments such as the oud, mijwiz, and tabla. This lively dance is commonly performed at weddings, festivals, and various community celebrations. The lyrics of Dabke songs often explore themes of love, patriotism, resilience, and social justice, further enriching its cultural significance. Presented by the American Palestinian Women Association (APWA) and Faris Al Leil Dabke group. Invite This program is appropriate is suitable for all ages.
