Join the National Park Service and Santa Monica Mountains Fund at Rancho Sierra Vista/ Satwiwa to help water newly planted walnut and oak trees!
Work will consist of watering hundreds of California black walnut trees and coast live oak trees planted by our SAMO Youth program. Our goal for this restoration project is to establish a native walnut/oak woodland ecosystem in areas that have historically been ranched. This activity is appropriate for ages 5 and up. No experience required!
We will have a canopy and water jug available to keep you cool, but be prepared to be exposed to the sun.Â
The event will run from 9 am to 12 pm.
Be prepared for the day:
Closed-toed shoes, sun protective layers, and a refillable water bottle are required at the event. Long pants, long sleeves, and a hat are strongly encouraged. We will supply watering cans, gloves, and training.
Directions: IN GOOGLE MAPS, Search 'Wendy Trail Head'
Address: 3996 Potrero Rd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91361
Ventura Fwy (101) to Wendy Dr. exit. Go South on Wendy drive approximately 3 miles. Park along Potrero Rd up against the fence (see attachment below), and a staff member will be waiting at the sign-in table. After checking in, you will be led on a 5 minute walk to the restoration area.
Other things to note:
Take everything you need for watering and try not to leave valuables in your vehicle. Safety is most important; if you are not feeling well, we ask you to stay home and join us on a later date when you’re feeling better.
Â
There are no restroom facilities at the worksite, but there are areas for nature pees.
PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME. WE HOPE NOT TO HAVE OUR LIMITED STAFF WAITING TOO LONG FOR LATE ARRIVALS!
