Details:
Join Farmer Kelly for the "Pickle Party," a hands-on pickling workshop designed for kids ages 6 to 10, presented by KDCrop Farms. This interactive experience allows children to transform fresh ingredients like cucumbers, garlic, and dill into delicious, crunchy pickles to take home. With over 20 years of experience, Kelly Caisse, a first-generation farm and food-business owner from KDCrop Farms in Chaplin, CT, will guide kids through the pickling process, teaching them where pickles originate from—starting in the garden. Participants will learn about essential vegetables and herbs, basic food safety, and the classic flavor ingredients that go into pickling. Using kid-friendly tools, each child will safely prepare their own jar of pickles, which will be processed in a traditional water bath. During the session, kids will also have the opportunity to taste a variety of pickles and explore different flavors. They will leave with their own jar and the enthusiasm to recreate the experience at home. Registration is required, and class size is limited to 15 students, along with adult helpers. This event is generously sponsored by the Stonington Garden Club.
