Beginner Ocean Swim Clinic: Sunday - July 12 (645am) PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED / LIMITED!! If you are interested in participating, please e-mail Coach Brian to confirm your slot: Brian@JSMswim.com WHAT: o Are you new to Open Water Swimming & would like to get some hands-on instruction, in a safe environment? o Do you have your 1st triathlon or Open Water Swim Race scheduled & have some concerns? o Our OWS Clinics will help overcome your fears/concerns & teach you to enjoy our weekly Long Branch Ocean Swims or even one of the many ocean mile swim races this summer! WHEN: Sunday – July 12 (645am) We will be starting promptly at 645am & wrapping up by 745am, so please plan to arrive before 645am. There is also a group in the water before our session, so if you see other swimmers on the beach or in the water already, don’t think you’ve missed it. I will meet you at the lifeguard tower, by 645am. COST: o There sessions are provided as a courtesy for those new to ocean swimming, so they can join our regular groups. o There is a suggested donation ($20) which covers cost of the equipment & lifeguards, staffing your session. o There will be a labeled canister, located on the lifeguard tower where we meet, please contribute your cash $ there. WHERE: We'll be meeting on the beach, at the lifeguard tower, directly in front of Chelsea Avenue in Pier Village (Long Branch): If using GPS… Le Avenue Restaurant 23 Ocean Avenue Long Branch, NJ 07740 *This is the closest specific mapped address & as a point of reference, the lifeguard tower we’re meeting at, is between the boardwalk gazebo & McLoone’s restaurants. Metered parking is available in/around Pier Village (I STRONGLY recommend downloading the parkmobile.io/if you intend to come frequently). Parking is FREE until 10am & then hourly, after that. MISC: Items you'll want to be sure you bring… o Notepad & pen o Swimsuit o Cap (If you have long hair) o Goggles
o Wetsuit: The water temperature is on either side of 60F & wetsuits are STRONGLY encouraged!! If you’re wondering what the water temperature is, I will post an update on the Jersey Shore Masters Facebook & Instagram page(s) on the preceding afternoon/evening. o If you’ve already processed a rental, there’s nothing else you need to do & you will receive a separate correspondence, the day before our session w/ pick-up instructions which will be located at the same address

o Garbage Bag: I often suggest bringing a garbage bag to put your wet items in
INCLEMENT WEATHER:
o In the event of a cancellation, I will send out an e-mail, no later than 2-hours before our scheduled session (if the forecast looks very bad, I’ll aim to cancel as early as possible, ideally on the preceding day).
o As such, if there's any question about the weather/conditions, please check your e-mail BEFORE heading to our clinic.
If we do need to cancel, you’ll be given alternate ‘rain dates’.

To summarize our session, there will be a component on the beach, where we will cover the basics of open water swimming (OWS), safety, equipment, strategy & answer ANY questions you have about OWS's. We will then head into the water to implement what we've discussed in the land component. There will be a rectangular course w/ buoys (totaling approximately 150 yards +/-), where we will practice these skills. I will be in the water with you, as well as two other certified lifeguards on boards….so one of us will never be more than a few seconds away from you.
WHO IS COACH BRIAN?
o Brian Shea comes to the program with a wealth of experience in endurance sports as an athlete, coach and consultant. He is the Head Coach & Founder of Jersey Shore Masters (JSM) & for over 25 years, has competed in all levels of endurance sports from 5K to Ultra-marathon Swims/Runs to Ironman.
o He has raced/won triathlons in the United States & abroad with multiple Ironman finishes including Ironman Hawaii with Personal Bests of:
5k - 15:54
Marathon - 2:49
Ironman - 9:31
Most recently, Brian has ( 8 ) Top-10 finishes at the 9-mile Annual Swim for Alligator Light as well as 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishes (M40-49) at the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships.
o On the coaching side, Brian is a certified coach having formulated training and sports nutrition programs for athletes ranging from beginner to professional.
