Details:
Come one, come all, and join the spectacular festivities at our annual Community Day! Head into the galleries for free, then bring the artwork to life through hands-on activities, live performances, and special food vendors—all inspired by our summer exhibitions, including An Exquisite Eye: Introducing the Aso O. Tavitian Collection, Giorgio Griffa: Paths in the Forest, and CoastLines: American Prints and Drawings. Free and open to all. Refreshments available for purchase. Held rain or shine. Sculpt your own funny figure inspired by Jean-Pierre Dantan’s caricature sculptures. Create wearable art by pressing images from An Exquisite Eye. For some extra fun, match the images to the artworks they belong to with our game, “I Spy with my Exquisite Eye.” Paint a beautiful bouquet provided by Full Well Farm, designed to look like the painting, Little Bouquet in a Roemer. Map your imagination with stamps of castles, dragons, compasses, and more. Make your own fun frills, like the ones depicted in Thomas de Keyser’s Portrait of a Young Woman and Peter Paul Rubens’s Portrait of a Young Man. Then, wear them around the museum! Decorate a shield-shaped tile with colorful glazes. Leave your work with North Adams Clay, and they’ll fire it in the kiln to make your finished product shine! Explore how rocks and plants can be transformed into oil paints. Plus, make a little oil paint to take home! Make art and make friends! In this playful drawing workshop, be both the artist and the model, all at the same time. Sessions take place on the hour and run for approximately thirty minutes. Run through the sprinklers, bop giant beachballs, and unwind at our Clark “coastline.” Bring together Berkshire-grown flowers to create a little bouquet, inspired by the painting, Little Bouquet in a Roemer. Pose for an exaggerated portrait and take home a personalized keepsake. Hop along this “path in the forest” inspired by Giorgio Griffa’s colorful paintings. See a range of nautical knots and make your own knotted bracelet. At this historical, hands-on station, explore a sea chest packed for a voyage, make a DIY “ditty bag,” enjoy sea chanties, and more! Pose like the portraits in the Tavitian Collection and take home your photostrip as a souvenir. Flex your muscles and get tatted with fun fish, fishermen, and other imagery featured in CoastLines. Celebrate the mythology of the Tavitian Collection with this aptly named brass band that infuses soul, funk, pop, and jazz into every note they play. Enjoy three scenes from Madison J. Cripp’s original puppet show featuring an enchanting underwater kingdom and elaborate characters. Explore An Exquisite Eye—and its many musical subjects—while listening to Olav Chris Henriksen on the lute and Carol Lewis on the viola da gamba. Immerse yourself in soulful vocals and rich banjo music. Hannah Mayree creates soundscapes that bridge past and present—blending African diasporic rhythms, Appalachian textures, and lyrical storytelling. Cappuccinos, affogatos, and other energizing treats. Homemade soups, delicious sandwiches, and fresh salads. Burgers, brats, and Italian-inspired favorites cooked to order. Local wine and beer—perfect for a picnic on the campus. American and Caribbean food, including fish sandwiches and jerk chicken. Gourmet ice cream by the cone from a Williamstown favorite. Savory and sweet crêpes that infuse local flavors into traditional French culinary styles. Delicious pizza made with local and seasonal ingredients from the heart of Vermont. Croissants, Danishes, and other exquisite treats from a North Adams favorite. Family programs are generously supported by Allen & Company.
