Details:
UZIMA! Drum and Dance invites you to be part of "Ndyio ya Miele," a celebration honoring the life and legacy of the late Kelly Burgét, founder of UZIMA!, and conveying the spirit of faith, wholeness, health, and life that was the guiding force in Kelly's world. "Ndyio ya Milele" (in-dee-yo ya mi-lay-lay) , the Swahili translation of "Eternal Yes," will feature dances, songs, and spoken word pieces that were not only touched by Kelly's always faithful "yes" but also meaningful to her and representative of the most important seasons and beliefs throughout her life. Joined by guest artists and many former UZIMA! performers, UZIMA!'s dancers, drummers, and vocalists will offer a selection of performances inspired by Kelly's resilience, strength, love of community, and desire to promote unity and connection among all people in the most profound and spiritual way. The experience is the hallmark of every UZIMA! performance, and this concert is the most intimate experience the company has offered—a tribute to its founder, its leader, its North Star. Kelly's spirit lives on through every member of UZIMA! Drum and Dance, and it is with deep reverence that we invite you to join us for this very special event. This event is part of the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center's Presenting Series' Cultural Collective, programming supporting equitable artistic development in our community. GET TICKETS
