Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, an esteemed ensemble formed in 2008 and rooted in Marsalis's earlier establishment of the Uptown Music Theatre in 2000, exemplify a unique collaboration between music and youth empowerment. The Uptown Jazz Orchestra (UJO) features up to 18 talented musicians who come together to celebrate the essence of jazz. The organizations work symbiotically, with UJO musicians providing instructional expertise while nurturing talent from the Uptown Music Theatre (UMT), which focuses on educational programming and musical theater training for youth. Tonight, the orchestra is led by master trombonist and bassist, TJ Norris, as they continue to uphold their commitment to jazz excellence.
