Join Barbara Chen at the library for a discussion on the selected book of the month. Bring lunch if you'd like. How to Read a Book is a novel about three people in Portland, Maine, whose lives intersect after a tragedy: Violet, a young woman recently released from prison for a fatal drunk driving accident; Harriet, a retired teacher who leads a prison book club; and Frank, the widower of the woman Violet killed, who works as a handyman at a bookstore. The story explores themes of forgiveness, grief, second chances, and the power of literature to connect people, as the characters form an unlikely family through their shared experiences and a local bookstore.
