194th Battle of Nacogdoches Celebration

On August 2, 1832, settlers in the Department of Nacogdoches resisted an order from Mexican commander Col. José de las Piedras to surrender their arms. The confrontation that followed drove the Mexican garrison from the town and marked one of the earliest armed conflicts leading to the Texas Revolution.
The Sons and Daughters of the Republic of Texas invite the community to gather in remembrance of this important moment in Texas history.
The program will take place near the home of Adolphus Sterne and will feature a first-person interpretation. Along with recognizing those who fought in the Battle of Nacogdoches, the event will be a time of remembrance, reflection, and celebration of the community’s role in Texas history. This event is free and open to the public.
