Details:
Weave together creativity, culture, and history in this hands-on Discovery Design Time activity! As part of our USA 250 programming, guests will explore the ancient art of weaving while creating their own colorful, star-inspired design.
Participants will learn about Ojo de Dios, a traditional woven craft originally created by the Wixáritari people of the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico. These beautiful woven symbols were made to represent protection, health, and long life, and are an example of the many cultural traditions that have helped shape communities across the United States.
Using yarn and simple weaving techniques, guests will create their own symbolic craft while developing hand-eye coordination, pattern recognition, and fine motor skills. Along the way, we’ll explore how weaving has been used by cultures around the world to create textiles, tell stories, and express identity.
This engaging activity celebrates the rich cultural traditions that contribute to America’s story while inspiring creativity through one of humanity’s oldest art forms.
This program is included with general admission.
