Details:
Celebrate 250 years of American history through art, nature, and creativity! In this special outdoor Discovery Design Time activity, guests will explore the science of natural pigments while creating their own flag-inspired textile art.
Using flowers, leaves, and other botanicals, participants will experiment with Tataki-Zome, an ancient Japanese dyeing technique that uses pressure and force to transfer natural colors onto fabric. As guests hammer and press plants into canvas, they’ll discover how natural pigments have been used throughout history to decorate textiles, tell stories, and create meaningful symbols.
Along the way, we’ll explore the role of flags as powerful visual storytellers and learn how the American flag has evolved over the past 250 years while remaining a lasting symbol of our nation’s history.
This hands-on activity combines art, science, and cultural exploration while encouraging guests to investigate the colorful world hidden inside the plants around us.
This program is included with general admission.
