Details:
Discover the colorful art of wax resist painting! In this hands-on activity, guests will explore a technique inspired by batik — a traditional textile art form that uses wax to create patterns and images by preventing dye or paint from reaching certain areas of fabric.
Using wax-based materials and watercolors on canvas, participants will design and paint images featuring animals that travel through water or sky. As they create, guests will experiment with color, saturation, and layering while watching the wax resist the paint to reveal their hidden designs.
Along the way, we’ll explore the history of batik, discover how artists around the world have used resist techniques for centuries, and investigate the science behind how different materials interact with water and pigment.
This creative activity blends art, observation, and experimentation — building fine motor skills and artistic confidence along the way.
This program is included with general admission.
