Join us for Week 5 of Discovery Center’s USA 250 Summer Programming as we explore the Great Plains and the American West through The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses by Paul Goble, winner of the 1979 Caldecott Medal.
This beautifully illustrated story follows a young Native American girl whose deep connection to horses and the natural world leads her on an unforgettable journey across the open prairie. Inspired by Plains Indian traditions and folklore, the book celebrates the bond between people, animals, and the land while introducing readers to the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous communities.
After the story, families can participate in hands-on activities inspired by the Great Plains, Native American storytelling traditions, and the wildlife that shaped life across the American West. Together, we’ll discover how people have connected with nature and their communities throughout our nation’s history.
