Botanical Bas Relief Plaster Casting
Capture the beauty of nature and transform it into a timeless work of art.
In this relaxed, hands-on workshop, participants will create a botanical bas relief sculpture using fresh flowers, leaves, grasses, and other natural materials. Students will begin by arranging plant specimens into a pleasing composition and pressing them into clay to capture their delicate textures and intricate details. Once the plant material is removed, plaster is carefully mixed and poured into the mold, preserving the beauty of the botanical forms in a permanent cast.
As the plaster cures, participants are encouraged to slow down and enjoy the creative experience. Bring a lunch or your favorite beverage (BYOB for those 21+) and spend time socializing with fellow makers. Weather permitting, we'll also have the option to take a brief walk outdoors to gather inspiration and appreciate the natural forms that make this process so rewarding.
After demolding, participants may choose to leave their casting in its classic white finish or enhance it with subtle color washes to emphasize the sculptural details. The result is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece of botanical wall art that celebrates the textures, patterns, and quiet elegance of the natural world.
No drawing, painting, or sculpting experience is required. This class is perfect for gardeners, nature lovers, artists, and anyone looking for a creative and relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Each participant will leave with a finished botanical relief ready to display in their home or give as a thoughtful handmade gift.
