Tween/Teen Leadership Camp (Grades 5-12)

Join us every Thursday this summer for a Tween/Teen Leadership Camp and earn Community Service hours each week.
See below for a breakdown of each week's theme.
June 18: We will kick off our camp with games, snacks and lots of activities. Our theme today is Civic Responsibilities. Mayor Davis will be our guest speaker, and our community service project is making buttons for the Teen area in our library.
June 25: This week Oh Crit performs improv comedy fused with Dungeons & Dragons! Join them as they embark on an adventure of twists and turns, bizarre characters, occasional epic failure…After the performance, we will make pressed flower bookmarks for our community service project.
July 2: Our theme this week is Healthy Lifestyle Choices where our focus will be Emotional Intelligence, Nutrition and Eating Habits. Project H.E.A.R.T.S. will be with us for a presentation and then we will explore foods that taste good and are good for you. We will end with a visit to the Library Garden.
July 9: R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for Injury Prevention & Policy will present life-saving bleeding control training through STOP THE BLEED. Parents are welcome to attend, too. In this course you’ll learn three quick techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out. FREE Personal Stop the Bleed kits will be provided at the end of class for all attendees ($45 value). We will also create a Take and Make kit for our Community Service project.
July 16: Our theme this week is Stress Management Strategies. Our activity, Bling your Book, will allow you to personalize your favorite book cover by adding decorative elements such as rhinestones, gems and other embellishments to the cover. You will turn a favorite read into a shimmering masterpiece. Bring your own or we will have books available. Create one for yourself and one to donate.
July 23: In this lab, students use DNA electrophoresis to solve a mock crime by comparing DNA samples from a crime scene with samples from suspects. By loading real DNA into a gel and observing how the glowing fragments separate into distinct banding patterns, students learn how scientists analyze genetic evidence. This hands-on activity introduces the basics of DNA forensics, showing how DNA can be used as reliable evidence to identify or rule out suspects in an investigation.
July 30: Come celebrate the last day of Leadership Camp with games, snacks, activities and our last community service project.
