The Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR)
Last week, Forum attendees heard from Colorado River District Board President (and Colorado Senator) Marc Catlin. On Wednesday, July 15, 8-9 AM, The Forum hosts the second part of our water series, featuring the Division of Water Resources (Division 4) and Assistant Division Engineer Evan Jones.
You might be thinking: Who are they? What role do they play in the big water picture? And why are they located in Montrose?
Or perhaps you have been wondering: Lake Mead and Lake Powell have issues. What is our part in that picture? Will they drain the reservoirs in our area to fill those two?
We are surrounded by reservoirs and dams and rely on water coming through the Gunnison Tunnel, but who is monitoring all that? What are the challenges? And what does our future look like?
The State Engineer’s Office
The State Engineer’s Office (now DWR) was created in 1881. Its mission is to:
Competently and dependably administer and distribute the waters of Colorado in accordance with the laws of the state
Ensure that dams and water wells are properly constructed and maintained to ensure public safety
Develop, maintain, and provide access to accurate and timely information regarding water resources
Worried about water? Want to know more?
Come to The Forum on Wednesday, July 15th, 8-9 AM…and bring a friend!
