The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) is one of the largest natural and cultural history museums in the Western United States, housing over 35 million specimens and artifacts. Its mission is to inspire wonder, discovery, and responsibility for our natural and cultural worlds. NHMLAC includes the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park and the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. The museum features exhibitions on dinosaurs, mammals, gems, minerals, and the relationship between nature and culture in Los Angeles, while also conducting scientific research and engaging in community dialogue to promote a sustainable environment.
