Current Exhibit: Omé-Na-Ala, Igbo Traditional Farm

The current exhibits at the Arboretum, "Omé-Na-Ala, Igbo Traditional Farm" and "Anishinaabeg Gitigaan: The Original People's Garden," showcase Indigenous agricultural traditions and the vital stories behind them. "Omé-Na-Ala, Igbo Traditional Farm," co-curated by Chidi Chidozie, runs from June 1 through harvest season and highlights sacred plants important to the Igbo people of Nigeria, including a scaled-down Igbo village to reflect their agricultural heritage as self-sufficient farmers and traders. Meanwhile, the "Anishinaabeg Gitigaan" exhibit, co-curated by Naawakweose, emphasizes the food and medicinal plants used by the Ojibwe people in the Woodlands and Great Lakes regions, drawing on ancestral knowledge from an Ojibwe seed keeper. Together, these exhibits elevate the voices of historically overlooked communities and celebrate the sustainability and cultural significance of their farming practices, connecting traditional knowledge with contemporary appreciation.
