Smith Park, located in Middletown, Connecticut, is a 50-acre municipal park acquired by the town in 1974. It is named in honor of U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Thomas G. Smith, who died in Beirut in 1983. The park offers a variety of recreational facilities and natural features, including ball fields, a playground, hiking trails, horseshoe pits, shuffleboards, and a pavilion. It also features a wetland meadow with various shrubs and a small pond within its woodland area. Recent renovations have included the installation of a state-of-the-art playscape, new sidewalks, and landscaping. The park is accessible with parking lots, picnic areas, and restrooms, and is a popular destination for walking, running, and various sports activities. Permission to use the pavilion for events can be obtained from the Middletown Park and Recreation Commission. The park is closed at sunset and its gates are locked.
