In the summer of 1824, Maquis de Lafayette sailed from France to America to visit every state (which had grown from 13 to 24 since Lafayette's last visit 40 years earlier!) for a year long celebration of his return. The Last Adieu is about Lafayette's farewell tour of the United States. Join us while we zoom live on our big screen (either in person at our library or zoom from home) with author Ryan L. Cole. Cole will be discussing his book about Lafayette's emotional visit. About the author: Ryan L. Cole, a former speechwriter and assistant to Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, holds degrees in history and journalism from Indiana University. He has written extensively about American history and is the author of Light-Horse Harry Lee: The Rise and Fall of a Revolutionary Hero. His latest book, The Last Adieu: Lafayette's Triumphant Return, the Echoes of Revolution, and the Gratitude of the Republic.
