Details:
Hear local author and writing instructor Molly Best Tinsley read from her new novel and share what she learned about writing while crafting it. A Modest Trumpet Fanfarefollows three generations of the Diamond family and the impact of their connection to military service on their family. Told from five different points of view, across three generations, the novel was inspired by Tinsleys experience both as a child in a military family and from twenty years spent on the civilian English faculty at the US Naval Academy. An Air Force brat who landed on the civilian faculty of the US Naval Academy, Molly Best Tinsley taught literature and creative writing before the publication of her first novel,My Life with Darwin, prompted her heading west to Ashland to write full-time. Her story collection Throwing Knives won the Sandstone Prize and the Oregon Book Award. Two spy thrillers and a literary mystery later, she began tinkering with the pieces of A Modest Trumpet Fanfare, the novel shed all along been preparing to write.
