The Art of Mending: Core Hand Sewing Skills

Join us for a fun and relaxing evening learning core sewing skills that can help extend the life of your favorite clothing and household items. Whether you are brand new to sewing or looking to refresh old skills, this hands-on class will introduce a variety of practical techniques for everyday mending and repair.
Participants will learn how to select the best needle for the job, tips for threading needles with ease, and several core stitches, including the running stitch, back stitch, herringbone stitch, and ladder stitch. We’ll also practice sewing on different types of buttons.
With these foundational skills, you’ll be able to repair seams on clothing, mend small tears, fix or raise a hem, close a seam on a throw pillow, and tackle a variety of basic household repairs with confidence. Each participant will take home printed instructions, needles, a needle threader, pins, and an assortment of thread to start their own mini repair kit at home.
Class Note: If you have an item you would like to mend but are unsure where to begin, feel free to bring it along. We’ll set aside time at the end of class to talk through ideas and options together.
