Kihei Canoe Club offers visitors an outrigger canoe experience, every Tuesday and Thursday morning (weather permitting) . The event starts with a traditional Hawaiian chant to welcome the morning sun over the volcano of Haleakala, brief instructions on how to paddle from your ho‘okele (canoe captain) , and then the canoes are launched for about an hour-long paddle with the opportunity to see turtles, manta rays, fish and other sea life. You will also learn some local history and culture during the paddle while enjoying the views of “Maui Nui”. During whale season (January - March) you will often get to see whales in their natural habitat. Limited spots available — Sign up early and join us for a fun experience on the water! NOTE: Due to insurance requirements & safety concerns, participants must be 12 years of age or older and a minimum of 48" (1.2m) in height. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by a paid, participating adult who is responsible for them. One adult may accompany up to 2 youth. Please be aware that outrigger canoe paddling is a physically demanding activity conducted in open ocean conditions, which varies daily. Participants must be in good physical condition, able to engage in sustained, moderate-to-strenuous activity, and must be able to tread water and swim in open ocean conditions. This experience is not appropriate for individuals with limited mobility, underlying health conditions, fear of open water, or age-related limitations that may affect their ability to paddle safely. For the safety of all involved, Kihei Canoe Club reserves the right to deny participation to anyone deemed unfit for the activity.
