Mansfield Parks & Recreation is responsible for operating and maintaining over 1,200 acres of parkland, including numerous athletic fields, the Walnut Creek Linear Trail, and Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park. The department offers a wide range of enrichment and athletic opportunities for all ages through the Mansfield Activities Center, which hosts recreation classes, sports skills training, pickleball tournaments, and serves as a hub for Senior Lifestyles services and the Kids Zone day camp. Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park provides a natural refuge with classes on science, nature, ecology, fishing, archery, and kayaking. The Walnut Creek Linear Trail offers miles of shaded, paved paths connecting seven parks across the city. In addition to park maintenance and development, Mansfield Parks & Recreation manages youth and adult recreation programs, nature education, senior citizen programs, and median and right-of-way maintenance. The department is funded primarily by a half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 1992, with oversight from the Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation. They also engage in public-private partnerships to expand recreational offerings. Recreational sports leagues are operated by independent associations utilizing city facilities.
