The **Discover Nature - Fishing Lesson 2** combines foundational techniques from Lesson 1 with intermediate skills in fishing. Participants will learn the safe and proper handling of fishing gear, how to cast a spincast rod, fasten tackle, and release fish, alongside advanced techniques like tying improved clinch knots and securing bait. All necessary fishing equipment will be provided, and participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for outdoor activities and bring sunglasses, water, and sunscreen. Families are welcome, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Those completing all four Discover Nature Fishing Lessons will receive a free fishing reward.
Additionally, the **Conservation Kids: Insect Safari** invites children aged 7-12 to explore the fascinating world of insects at Runge, while **Babes in the Woods: Building Like a Beaver** engages parents and toddlers (0-2) in crafts and activities themed around beavers.
Lastly, get your hands dirty at the **Native Plants: Garden Work Day** where you’ll assist Burr Oak Woods staff in maintaining native gardens around the Nature Center. Participants should bring water and personal protective gear like bug spray and sunscreen, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required for all programs.
