Details:
(Rescheduled Because of the Recent Water Main Break)Â Residents of Pomeroy Living Orion asked for programming about the concept of originalism as a way of understanding the meaning of the U.S. Constitution. Todd Estes has answers, and Pomeroy Living Orion is welcoming community members to join in this event. There are two main ways of thinking about and understanding the Constitution. What, if anything, do they have in common? How do they differ? And is originalism, as currently practiced, even feasible? Todd Estes is a Professor of U.S. history at Oakland University. He teaches classes on the American Revolution, the U.S. Early Republic, and Jacksonian America. He is the author of The Jay Treaty Debate, Public Opinion, and the Evolution of Early American Political Culture, and his next book is Campaign for the Constitution: The Politics of Moderation in the Ratification Debates.
