Join us on July 19 for an enriching outdoor experience at Mitchell State Park and Belle Isle Park. At Mitchell State Park, participate in the Wild Mushroom Clinic with Great Lakes Treats, where expert instructors Jill and Aaron will guide you through the art of identifying, harvesting, and preparing Michigan’s edible mushrooms. This immersive clinic, held at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center in Cadillac, equips you with essential skills for foraging seasonal favorites like morels, chanterelles, and oyster mushrooms. The full-day program includes hands-on learning about mushroom identification, sustainable harvesting methods, and the ecology of the forest. Registration costs $40 and includes lunch, instructional materials, and a mushroom identification book. A Recreation Passport is required for entry.
Meanwhile, at Belle Isle Park, participate in our Birding Belle Isle program, where bird enthusiasts of all skill levels can observe and identify local avian wildlife. This free monthly event involves a one-mile unpaved loop trail, meeting at the Ralph Wilson Jr. Gateway trailhead with varying locations each month to spot the best birds. Limited binoculars will be available for loan. Preregistration is required and a Recreation Passport is also needed for Belle Isle entry. Join us for these engaging outdoor adventures and deepen your appreciation for nature!
