**PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A VIRTUAL PROGRAM THAT WILL TAKE PLACE VIA ZOOM. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Webinar via email.** JoinDC Design Toursfor a virtual tour highlighting the history, design and architecture of Pennsylvania Avenue, one of the nations most iconic streets. Trace the corridor linking the White House to the U. S. Capitol -- from the crime-ridden neighborhood of Murder Bay to a grand boulevard at the heart of the capital. Once home to brothels, saloons, and gambling halls, the Avenue has been repeatedly reshaped through urban reform, historic preservation, and monumental design. From Neoclassicism to Brutalism, Pennsylvania Avenue now reveals a fascinating architectural timeline in brick, marble, and concrete. Explore the buildings and planning decisions that turned a notorious district into a symbol of the capitals civic ambition and evolving identity. Special attention will be paid to The White House, the Federal Triangle, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, the Old Post Office Tower, the Edgar Hoover FBI Headquarters, and the Temperance Fountain. Register directly on ZoomHERE. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. RECORDING NOTE:This program will be recorded. All registrants will receive the recording via email within 48 hours of the program.
