Create Quilt-Inspired Art

Join our visiting teaching artist and make your own piece of art using felt and paper!
Learn about the historical significance of fabric in American culture, particularly within the African American community. Create your own piece of art inspired by traditional quilting patterns or design your own story quilt inspired by Faith Ringgold’s Caldecott Honor picture book, Tar Beach.
About the teaching artist:
Rachel-Anne Palacios teaches cultural and folk arts throughout the Bay Area. She enjoys giving back to her Oakland community by serving as the resident Cultural Arts instructor at Cleveland and Bella Vista Elementary schools. She is driven by her interest in her cultural legacies and in expanding her students' understanding of local and global cultures.
