Details:
Join the Alexandria Historical Society for a meaningful historical experience on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with "Alexandria’s Patriots Remembered: A Revolutionary Walk Through Alexandria’s Founding History." This tour begins at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, located at 323 South Fairfax Street in Old Town Alexandria. Participants will explore the historic Meeting House and its 18th-century burial ground, learning about 43 Revolutionary War veterans and patriots connected to the congregation through the guidance of historian David Heiby. The program will also highlight the contributions of local figures such as physicians, merchants, civic leaders, and soldiers who played pivotal roles in the American Revolution and the early republic.
Additionally, participants can deepen their understanding of Alexandria's revolutionary past by joining the "Those Who Signed The Fairfax Resolves Walking Tour." This tour commemorates the signing of the Fairfax Resolves by 25 gentlemen from Fairfax County on July 18, 1774, who rejected British authority over the colonies. Learn about the signers and visit historic sites associated with their legacy.
Tickets are available for $25 for non-members and $20 for Alexandria Historical Society members for the Meeting House tour, and $20 per person for the Fairfax Resolves walking tour. Advance registration is required, and comfortable shoes are recommended. Tours will proceed rain or shine. For registration, visit www.alexandriahistoricalsociety.org/events/opmh-tour or contact us at carlyle@nvrpa.org or call 703-549-2997 for assistance.
