Take a look back in time at photographs taken, then and now, in a number of very familiar places to millions of visitors who go north from the Highlands Bridge into the seashore’s Gateway National Recreation Area each year. Discover the development and growth of Northern New Jersey Shore tourism and the Highland Beach Resort destination together with the significant role of rail transportation’s excursion trains, steamboats and autos to Sandy Hook. In particular, the Highland Beach Resort is a unique part of Sandy Hook history existing from 1888 through 1963.
