**Closing the Gap: Summer Intensive Workshop for Educators**

**Location:** Cameron Art Museum

Join us for a transformative, free, hands-on professional development workshop designed for educators from Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender, Onslow, and Sampson counties. Pre-registration is required. Experience innovative arts integration strategies that enhance K–8 curriculum through making, movement, and cross-curricular connections. Collaborate with regional teaching artists Shannon Newby and Medina Demeter to bring core subjects to life.

**Workshop Highlights:**
- Engage in exploring CAM’s outdoor sculpture “Caroline” by NC artist Vollis Simpson with Shannon Newby, where you'll learn to inspire creativity across visual arts, design-engineering, writing, and science. Participants will create an adaptable lesson plan and a mini automaton, focusing on motion and storytelling.
- Work with Medina Demeter to design costumes inspired by Andy Warhol’s Silver Clouds, using non-traditional materials to explore movement and spatial interactions.

Lunch and materials will be provided, and educators can register with a colleague to enhance their school's impact. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for potential CEU credit.

**About the Artists:**
- **Shannon Newby** is known for her engaging, playful learning approaches and has extensive experience in various educational settings, including museums and community centers.
- **Medina Demeter**, an award-winning theatre arts educator and A+ Fellow, brings expertise in crafting arts-integrated professional development for teachers nationwide.
