Wharton on Wednesday at The Mount

Stories, voices, and a welcoming café atmosphere—Wharton on Wednesday returns for a five-month run! Join us at the Terrace Café on the first Wednesday of each month, June through October, as local actors bring quintessential Edith Wharton short stories to life. Arrive early to enjoy the spectacular view and refreshments from the Café, open at 4:30 pm.
In July, Gregory Boover reads The Recovery. Sponsored by a rich benefactress, a locally acclaimed American painter and his wife head to Europe to show off his paintings, only to discover he still has much to learn.
In August, Tod Randolph returns to read The Mission of Jane. Realizing his marriage has failed and his wife is lonely, Mr. Lethridge agrees to her latest request: to adopt a baby. What could go wrong?
In September, Mae Hedges Boyce returns to read Angel at the Grave. Miss Paulina Anson has grown old preserving the house and memory of her grandfather, a once famous Transcendentalist, only to meet with bitter disappointment when public interest in him wanes. Until a young stranger appears on her doorstep offering hope and a new start.
In October, Ryan Winkles reads His Father’s Son. An artistic, poetic young man confronts the seemingly prosaic businessman who raised him as a son with evidence that his actual father is a famous violinist. This gently sardonic tale plays with rumors of Wharton’s own illegitimacy.
