Would you like to refine your portrait painting skills? Have you always wanted to get into portraiture and just don’t know where to start? This portrait painting class will teach the ins and outs of portraiture. Students will spend time practicing color, form, anatomy, style, and materiality. Dive into learning what it takes to paint a portrait while seeing how portraits have changed throughout history.
Students will develop an in-depth understanding of how to construct a portrait from life and from photos including mixing flesh tones, understanding value, temperature, hue, viscosity, in addition to the anatomy of the human head inside and out.
This Week:
Project: Reference portrait from photos
Goal: Mixing flesh tones, form, and anatomy. Applying everything we’ve learned so far
Materials: Painting materials (Acrylic or Oil), sketchbook, canvas paper
Procedure: Students choose a photo to paint
*You are required to bring your own drawing materials.
*Safety: Always wash hands after working with acrylic paint. Never eat, smoke, or drink with paint on your hands. Don’t put your brush in your mouth.
Cost: $15 due upon arrival
