Details:
Join us for a weekend of exploration in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from November 6-8, featuring two insightful courses: "Mammals of the Smokies" and "Geology."
While "Mammals of the Smokies" is currently full, this course invites participants to delve into the rich variety of mammals inhabiting the park, including elusive black bears and darting bats. Attendees will learn to identify signs of these creatures, such as tracks and scat, gaining a deeper understanding of their biology, behaviors, and the conservation challenges they face in the Southern Appalachians.
Simultaneously, the "Geology" course offers an exploration of the ancient geological history of the Smokies, revealing how shifting plates and erosion have shaped the landscape. Guided field sessions will familiarize participants with basic geology skills, examining rock layers and features, and discussing the relationship between geology and biodiversity.
Both courses include accommodation, meals, and expert instruction. This weekend is part of Tremont’s Southern Appalachian Naturalist Certification Program, allowing participants to either enroll individually or work towards comprehensive certification. Embrace the opportunity to enhance your naturalist skills and appreciation for the intricate connections between wildlife and geology in this stunning national park.
